Group 3 Day 2

Hi there! We the Wander Girls here to tell you about our exciting experience on Day 2..........

We had our first master class with Mr Avip Priatna, an Indonesian clinician. One of the most important points we have learnt from him is that in order to sing well, we can use the physical aspects of our body eg the muscles from the abdomen, the space in the mouth and diaphragm to produce a richer and more rounded voice ( open up to sing high notes better ). A very important skill we learnt is how to maintain the resonance of the voice which is the quality of the voice that produces the beautiful sound. To our surprise we could link the HOM in our choral lesson. For example, we need to be precise and clear in our diction and intonation regardless of what notes we are singing. It is important to get our pitch corrrect which means that we must constantly strive for accuracy.

We also attended another master class with Mr Mark Anthony Carpio, from the Filipines, whose choir is internationally famous and one of the best in the world. We only managed to sing 2 songs to him. Most importantly, in order to sing well, we have to first listen carefully to our own voice, piano, and other section of the choir with understanding so that we can adjust the volume of our voices to blend into the overall effect. We found ourselves trying very hard to pronounce foreign words correctly in 'Paruparong Bukit', a Filipino folk song. For example, words like git na, sooklay, sang dang kal ang mang gas, mye pay-ne ta pa pye'sa are quite hard to catch and pronounce correctly.

We actually had a hectic day as we were preparing for our performance for the friendship concert. It was actually the first day of the friendship concert, which will be held for 3 nights. The theme for today's concert was Christmas, and we all wore lime green choir tee and our Christmas hat. The first two items were put up by 2 primary schools, Chua Chu Kang Primary School and Junyuan Primary School. We were very impressed as they seemed to be more confidence than us, even though they are younger. They did not really show that they were nervous on stage. As for the projection of their voice, they were quite loud for their age. So we felt we must definitely not let down ourselves and do better than them. Our anxiety were all shown on our faces. We made a few mistakes here and there. But we tell ourself to do our best, relax and shine on stage. Some of us tried our best to smile brightly, even though we were all nervous. Although our performance was not perfect, we gained an experience and we gave it our best shot. After which, we also heard some other choirs perform, such as VJC and TKSS. Their singing was really wonderful.!! ...There were games and contest as well.

After the concert, our condcutor, Mr Lim, treated all of us to supper at KFC. We all enjoyed it very much, and would really like to thank him for the treat! Thank you Mr Lim!
