Group 4: Day 4 Reflection

DAY 4! (:

Appreciation Cards
The whole choir was split into four groups and were given writing materials to write their appreciation cards to whom they want to thank or encourage. It is important to encourage one another in order to gain confidence. We should not take others for granted. We need to be sensitive to each other’s needs and show respect to one another. In this way we can build stronger unity in the choir. That’s why we have ‘One Voice One Harmony One Choir’ printed on our choir t-shirt.

Free And Easy
From 12-5pm, we were given our free time to shop around and play the indoor theme park. One of the more exciting rides was ‘The Adventure Of Jett And Jin’. We were given 4-D spectacles so that we were able to visualize the 4-D effects of the clip. Apart from the 4-D spectacles, the seats that we sat on were able to move according to the movements of the clip. During some of the more exciting parts of the clip, we could feel some cold air coming out below and above our seats. We seldom get a chance to watch 4-D clips in Singapore.

Friendship Concert (Grand Finale)
This was our last concert before heading back to Singapore. We felt that Victoria Junior College outshined other choirs as they have strong breath control and were able to sustain high notes. We ought to learn from them.

Yixuan: I will cherish my experience from this trip and i will apply those techniques taught during the master classes.
Jolene: I would like to thank the two clinicians and Mr Lim for their useful tips given to us.
Audrey: I would like to thank Mr Lim and all the teachers for their motivations and encouragments.
Tongxin: I would like to thank Mdm Cheng and Mr Png for making this trip possible. I am very grateful as I've gotten a once-in-a-life time opportunity to attend master classes conducted by Mr Carpio.
Miss Goh: It has been a rewarding trip for me as I have witnessed the growth in each member, and also the marked improvement in SKSS Choir. The singers have taken greater ownership of their own learning and have gained confidence in their own singing.
We are so glad to have Mr Lim, the Choir conductor, to come on this trip. Mr Lim has been pivotal to make learning fun for the Choir. I am proud to know that the pianist, Ronald, was our SKSS student! Wow! So heartwarming to have our ex-student here with us to serve and support the CCA.
The time spent with the teachers has been so precious to me. I have enjoyed the strong team spirit among us. The fun and laughters we shared are unforgettable. It is my privilege to know Mr Melvin Png, Mdm Jane Cheng and Mdm Kiren better through the days we spent together. I thank them for their commitment and sacrifices made to make this trip a memorable one for the students. Last but not least, I would like to thank Mr Leong, our Principal for his relentless support and blessings for me to come on board in this learning journey. I have benefitted alot personally and professionally.

Group 1 (Day 4)

Dear Diary,

Today we had a free and easy day. After breakfast, all the choir members gathered at The Ballroom for an ‘Appreciation Session’ where we wrote sweet notes to encourage and appreciate one another. When we went around giving out our notes, it felt very good to encourage others and make their day. Likewise, when we received notes, it made us feel very good about ourselves and we really feel very happy after we read what we got.

After that session, we had A LOT of free time to shop and enjoy the INDOOR rides with the tickets given to us. The Bumper Cars were extremely fun and enjoyable. We appoint Rachel Yeo as the Official Bumper Car Queen as she really knows how to go and attack people in her car. We went shopping after the rides. We each bought some souvenirs for our family, friends and ourselves. We had dinner at First World Café and headed to the concert hall soon after. The concert was yet again a memorable performance by different schools like Victoria Junior College.
The concert was amazing. We found out that Tanjong Katong Secondary school had 87 people on the stage today. The actual number of people in the choir is 130. When we heard it we were amazed!!!!!

There is this Choir Conductor who caught our attention. Mr. Darius Lim composes all his own songs which his choir sings. He is so musically talented. He is an extremely young composer/conductor at the young age of 23. He has great stage presence and when his choir sings, he looks like a magician magically making sounds and actions appear.
That’s all we have for today! Night Night World!

Group 1 (Day 3)

Dear Diary,

Here's the various happenings for the day...

Master Class
Today we had our Master Class once again with Mr. Carpio. He gave us feedback of our performance & told us we sang quite well for our performance. He also taught us how to improve in our performance. The interesting part was the Q&A Session that we had right at the end when we could ask the expert burning questions that we had. We learnt the following:
· Our standing position.
· Singing = 90% breathing
· Facial expressions bring songs to live and convey the writer’s message.
Mr. Carpio told us that learning stops once we find things easy and unchallenging. We feel it is very true and that we must always be open to learning even if it is something that we have heard before.
In a choir, when everybody strives to be better than one another, that choir benefits as a whole and climbs up strongly. However, having a member with poor attitude is enough to pull the whole choir down. We feel that on our own, we must always strive to do our best & if there are friends who suddenly seem restless and unmotivated, we must encourage them along.

Team-Building Games
We had loads of fun during the team-building games! There was loads of screaming & excitement in the air. The activities helped us to get to know more about one another including our teachers and we all had a good laugh! Thanks to Ying Qing & Ying Jie for leading us in the activities. =)

Sending Mr. Lim Off
Mr. Lim had to go off today around 2pm. We felt sad to see him go as we know it would feel like something is missing from the choir. We miss his laughter and company! We miss his funny expressions when he conducts!!

Friendship Concert (Pyjamas Night!)
Everybody came with their pyjamas, soft toys, pillows, blankets! Some cute stuff from our choir is Sheepie, Care Bear and Ms. Goh’s Garfield bedroom slippers! The best part of the concert was having to dance to “Nobody” by Wondergirls. Mr. Darius led the different schools of choirs and taught them the dance steps! We seriously had great fun!

Love,
RACHELS, Pei Ting, Syazwani, Hui Yu,
Tabitha & Ms. Carmelia

Group 2's Learning Journey: Day 4

Facilitating an activity

Today was quite a relaxing day because we didn’t have any chorale practices. In the morning, we wrote some notes of appreciation to our friends in the SKY choir and our teachers. We felt honoured to be the facilitators for this activity. At the end of the activity, we presented the notes to our friends and in turn, received notes from them. It was a very motivating and uplifting experience for us.

The Indoor Theme Park

In the afternoon, we went to play at the indoor theme park. Although the queue was short, we took quite a long time before we could enjoy the ride. There were only a few rides, so we spent less than two hours to complete all the rides. After that, we went shopping in the mall. We bought some souvenirs for our friends and family members.

The Concert
In the evening, we ate our dinner. After the dinner, we watched the concert – the grand finale. We watched several performances. We also watched a video of an advertisement for Honda vehicles, as a choir sang the audio track for the advertisement.

Group 4: Day 3 Reflection

Day 3 reflections

MASTER CLASS
During the master class, Mr Carpio taught us the finger sign “<, >” which means crescendo(soft to loud or vice versa). Apart from that, he also taught us the importance of using our tummy muscles to project a louder voice. He mentioned that when singing, we need to breathe in 90% breath unlike talking which requires only around 70% breath. We later had a Q&A session where each section would raise a few questions for Mr Carpio to answer. Lastly, before Mr Carpio left, he sang us a song. It was sung beautifully. We really gained a lot from the 3 master classes we had.

Personal takeaways by the members in the group:

Jolene: We should always listen to each other when we sing to ensure the harmony is good.

Yixuan: We should always take personal responsibility to improve so that we would not pull the choir down and the choir's standard will be raised.

Tongxin: We should always sing with expression. For instant, if we're singing a happy song, we should carry a smile on our face. On the other hand, if we're singing a sad song, it would look weird if we sing with a smile.

Audrey: Always think of how to breath when doing the excerises.

TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES
We played some team building games today. The first game was an ice-breaking game while the second game involved us arranging ourselves according to our birthdays without talking to one another. Through this game, we have learnt the importance of communication and listening to one another. Lastly, we had a game that required us to tell a lie and a truth. Through this game, we found out some interesting facts about our friends in choir.

FRIENDSHIP CONCERT(PYJAMAS THEME)
The concert started off with Junyuan Primary School’s performance. Their choreography pleasantly surprised us. We think that our choir should try out some movements in our performances. Secondly, Victoria Junior College’s performance impressed us. Both of the male soloists were able to project their voices clearly. We should learn how to project our voices too. We should vary the volume of our voices to express the song better. This means we need to have better breath control. The fun part was the dancing for the song ‘Nobody’ led by Junyuan Primary School's conductor. We find him very cute.

Group 3 Day 4 (19th Nov)

Blogging at Starbucks on 18th Nov. It's 1.20am !!
Typing reflection for our last entry on 19th Nov. Yayy!!

Look! We got all these appreciation from our friends and teachers!

Oi! What have YOU learnt on this trip?
Say '"THANK YOU"" la!
Hello! It’s us again!
We started the day by writing thank you notes to one another, in appreciation for one another’s hard work throughout the 4 days. Everyone was very positive about this activity and was very spontaneous about it. These words of affirmation actually encourages us to go a longer way in the future. Upon receiving and writing those notes, we felt really delighted, and that this activity is very meaningful.
After which, we had our free time. We went shopping and to the indoor theme park. We really enjoyed ourselves, and felt really relaxed.
Today was the last night of the friendship concert. Once again, all the schools which performed sang very well, and we could learn a lot from them.
Overall, Cantus Angelicus was really enjoyable and meaningful. We hope that there will be another of such opportunity for us to learn, and to also bond with one another. This is definitely a new experience for us, and also a new platform for us to improve ourselves. Lastly, we would like to thank the Mr Leong and Mr Mannan and Mdm Eunice Koh for their support and the teachers for their hardwork to arrange and organize this trip.

We’ll be heading back to Singapore tomorrow morning. Last night here, good night!

SKSS Choir - Our WONDERfully Talented Pianist

Ronald Lim @ Pyjamas party
Don't play play. Ronald is looking like a maestro.

@The GrandBallroom Genting International Conventional Centre

With us on this trip is Seng Kang Sec's ex-student Ronald Lim Xian Quan and alumni of our SKSS Choir. He played for SKSS Choir for all our Masterclasses and friendship concert. It's really great to see that our student has turned out so well. An outstanding student, Ronald has chosen music as his career. Currently studying music, Ronald plays for school choirs including SKSS Choir. Just give him the score and his fingers will play for you immediately. He doesn't even need to practise!

To the teachers especially Mr Albert Teoh and myself, who have seen him grow from a young boy to a confident, poised young man, he will always be our dear little Ronald. To the choir, he is now Mr Lim! hehe

Thank You Ronald for being with us on Cantus Angelicus 2009.

We look forward to many more good years with you as our pianist!
